Adele is one of the fabulous authors at 6th Books and here she kindly shares her wisdom on the 6th Books Blog.
People often ask, “Where do you find your inspiration?”
I never know what to reply.
I don’t have one source of inspiration. I go through phases. What remains consistent about my writing is the process.
Whatever I write, I make sure it is honest. This is the secret to good writing.
A reader will always sense a lie. It doesn’t matter if you are writing science fiction, erotica or a school essay, truth speaks for itself. An authentic voice speaks louder than the most elegant prose. It reverberates through time, touching the lives of a new generation of readers.
Classics like War and Peace manage to achieve this cult fame, but you don’t have to be Tolstoy to write well.
Grab Your Pencil
Anyone can write. Don’t believe me? Pick up the pencil and write three words to describe yourself. Take a good look at those three words. We are on a journey to find the inspiration within--this is where writing starts in the heart not the mind.
Does one word stand out?
Take that word and own it. Tell me what it means for you, what it means for those closest to you.
Tell me who you are.
Letting It Out
It is a simple task, but we don’t always know what we want. The greatest secret I can share with you comes from the master himself, Shakespeare.
“This above all: to thine own self be true.”
Know who you are and own it on paper. If you doubt your ability to write, you doubt your voice. Everyone has something to say. There is something wonderful and unique within you.
Let it out.
Adele Vincent’s book, A Circle of Light: Transform Grief Into A Unique Opportunity for Guidance is out the 28th of June with 6th Books.
